When a board needs replacing.

What the work involves.
- Testing the existing circuits first, so we know what we are connecting
- A metal consumer unit to current standards, sized for your circuits
- RCD or RCBO protection so a fault on one circuit doesn't kill the house
- Surge protection where appropriate
- Main protective bonding checked and upgraded if needed
- Every circuit labelled properly, and a schedule you can actually read
- Full test, Electrical Installation Certificate and building control notification
- 01 Check We test the existing installation, because a new board on faulty circuits solves nothing.
- 02 Quote Fixed quote covering the board, protection, bonding and any remedial work found.
- 03 Swap Usually a day, with power off for part of it. We agree the timing with you first.
- 04 Certify Test, label, certify and notify. You keep the paperwork.

How long is the power off?
For most domestic boards the changeover is done within a day, with the supply off for part of it. We agree the window with you beforehand so you can plan around it.
Why does the quote mention bonding?
A new board is only as safe as the earthing behind it. If the main protective bonding to your gas and water services is missing or undersized, it has to be corrected as part of the work.
My board is fine, but an EICR gave it a C2. What now?
A C2 means potentially dangerous and needs remedial work. Sometimes that is a board replacement, sometimes it is a specific fault on a circuit. We will tell you which, and quote for the work that is actually needed.
